It is easy to travel around State College by bus. The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) provides transportation to and from surrounding towns. You can pay exact cash for each ride, buy tokens at the HUB information desk on the Penn State campus, or buy a bus pass. There is free CATA bus service around the campus on the LOOP and LINK buses.

If you want to travel out of State College, the bus station is located on Atherton Street next to the Penn State campus. Buses from here often take you to larger stations in other cities but there are some direct route options on certain days. Check Greyhound's Web site at www.greyhound.com.

Megabus.com is an express bus service offering city-to-city travel for as low as $1 over the Internet. Megabus offers pickup and return from State College, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia, Pa.; Camden, NJ; New York, NY.

University Park Airport is only minutes from downtown State College and Penn State. The airport offers a daily selection of flights to several major hubs such as Detroit, Philadelphia, and Washington/Dulles, with convenient connecting flights from there. Taxi and shuttle bus service is available for travel to and from the airport.

Driving In the United States

If you plan to drive in the United States, we suggest that you get an international driver's license in your own country before coming to the United States.

You cannot obtain a Pennsylvania license if you do not have one full year on your I-20.
