IECP Tutoring Center

The IECP Tutoring Center is located in 322 Pond Building

Location and Hours

The ITC is located in 322 Pond (on the third floor).

During the Spring 2017 semester, the ITC will be open
January 16 through April 21 (excluding campus holidays and IECP holidays).

The ITC is open Monday & Wednesday, 2:30-5:30; Tuesday & Thursday, 12-1; Friday, 11:30-1:30.  

Mission Statement

The ITC provides assistance to IECP students in mastering different aspects of English and standardized test preparation. Our focus is on supporting long-term improvement in students' academic English proficiency.

All IECP students are eligible for ITC services, which are provided for free.

Services

ITC offers the following types of tutoring servicesfree of charge to IECP students:

  • One-on-one tutoring
  • Small-group (2-5 people) tutoring
  • Large-group (20 people) workshops
  • Drop-in tutoring

-  You can schedule tutoring sessions with different tutors depending on the skill
-  You can be matched with one tutor and have regular weekly sessions
-  You can form a group with other IECP students and work together with a tutor on a specific area.

Working with our team of tutors, students get help with a variety of English language skills at all proficiency levels:

  • Reading
  • Speaking
  • Free Conversation
  • Writing
  • Grammar
  • Vocabulary
  • Pronunciation
  • Listening
  • TOEFL/IELTS

Workshops

ITC tutors also provide help students prepare for TOEFL and IELTS tests. The center organizes series of large-group and small-group TOEFL workshops during each  semester in addition to workshops designed by ITC tutors. Workshops that have been offered include topics such as:

  • "Pronunciation and Spelling"
  • “Drama”
  • “Dictations for Sound”
  • “Renters' Rights”
  • “Improve Your English Writing the Fun Way!”
  • "Professional Emails"
  • "Getting Involved in State College"

 

ITC Tutors

The ITC has a team of experienced and enthusiastic tutors including IECP instructors (teaching assistants) and volunteer tutors (masters and undergraduate students with an interest in teaching ESL). The ITC also collaborates with IECP faculty consultants to provide appropriate and relevant tutoring for IECP students.

Becoming a Tutor

ITC recruits tutors during the last two weeks of the preceding semester and then continuously throughout the current semester. If you want to become a volunteer tutor, please email the ITC Coordinator, Qian Wu, at iecp-itc@psu.edu for an application.
