Learn English in IECP Classes and Outside the Classroom

The IECP offers courses in English speaking and listening, reading, writing, and grammar, and you can practice your new skills outside the classroom.

In your classes, you will study:

  • speaking and listening which focuses on the development of listening and speaking skills in both academic and social contexts.
  • grammar which focuses on the grammar of basic to complex sentence structures in written and oral form.
  • vocabulary development which focuses on development and reading comprehension.
  • writing which focuses on the writing process, from producing clear and grammatically correct sentences to well-developed academic essays.

The IECP English language school has 4 levels:

  • Level 1: High Beginner
  • Level 2: Intermediate
  • Level 3: High Intermediate
  • Level 4: Advanced

At the beginning of each semester, our new students take a placement test and do a writing sample. Based on the results of this testing, you will be placed in the appropriate level and take the courses in that level.

In the IECP, you can learn English in small classes with an average of 8 to 14 students who have come to our English language school from around the world.

In the fall and spring semesters, you will:

  • be in class for 20 hours per week
  • take 4 courses in each semester
  • experience a semester that is 15 weeks long
  • have 2 classes each day, Monday through Friday
  • meet for 2 hours each class

In the summer semester, you will:

  • be in class for 30 hours per week
  • take 4 courses in the summer semester
  • experience a semester that is 10 weeks long
  • have 2 classes each day, Monday through Friday
  • meet for 3 hours each class instead of 2 hours; you will receive the same amount of instructional time as in a fall or spring semester

Students with F-1 visas must attend our English language school as full-time students.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Intensive English Communication Program is to provide quality language instruction to nonnative speakers of English with an emphasis on the language skills necessary for academic success. The program accomplishes this through classes taught by caring, professional faculty. Outside their classes, students are supported by a dedicated IECP staff.
